Individual Sessions

The Sessions

I provide an effective, relaxed, no-nonsense therapeutic approach to a wide variety of chronic or acute physical complaints that result from repetitive activities (RSI), sports activities, traumatic injuries, poor posture, faulty body usage and daily stress.
To do so, I make use of techniques that focus on the release of tight muscles, bound connective tissues and fixated joints to alleviate pain, restore function and improve posture and well-being. Client education and self-help tips are strongly emphasized to promote lasting results.

Common Conditions

  • Back, hips, shoulders and neck pain

  • Recurring or frequent headaches

  • Painful or reduced range of movement

  • Pain or odd sensations in the arms, hands, legs and feet

  • Abdominal and chest pain that persists following negative findings from medical investigations

  • Symptoms that did not respond to other types of treatments: this is simply because too few therapies focus on fascia, an extremely important connective tissue very closely involved with the proper functioning of the muscular system, and a major potential troublemaker.

About Me

I made bodywork my profession since taking my first massage training in San francisco in 1985 and was lucky to study thereafter with some of the most respected teachers in the United States where I lived from 1978 until 2002.  I have many years of experience working in chiropractic and physical rehabilitation clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area and in 1998 started teaching Myofascial Release and Hanna Somatics classes. In Amsterdam since 2002, I worked many years for Het Nationale Ballet while developing a private practice where I see a wide range of clients that includes professional dancers, musicians, performers of all sorts and everyone else. I taught anatomy and deep tissue massage classes for the Akademie voor Massage en Beweging, anatomy classes for various yoga instructor training programs and regularly give workshops for small groups of experienced massage therapists.

Workshops

Myofascial Release and Postural Awareness: A continued education workshop series for experienced massage therapists

The purpose of this series is to share concepts and techniques that will improve the quality of your work for results that your clients will greatly appreciate while making the process more intellectually rewarding to you. My goal is to give you a better understanding of what might cause your clients’ symptoms, a greater confidence about what you can do to improve their condition and the ability to recognize serious problems that need to be referred  to a specialist.

I have known Michel Dumonceau since 1988 and have great respect for his skills as a therapist and his precision and clarity in teaching. The material he presents in his workshops will be of great benefit to the success of any bodywork practice.
— Art Riggs, Advanced Rolfer, teacher and author of “Deep Tissue Massage – A Visual Guide to Techniques”, San Francisco - California
I have been working with Michel since he joined Het Nationale Ballet in 2006. His work goes well beyond what is generally expected from massage therapy, and the results he gets have earned him a great reputation with the entire company. The concepts and techniques he presents in his classes should be of great interest to massage therapists who want to bring a higher level of specificity to their work.
— Ted Willemsen, Manual Therapist, lecturer and author of “Anatomy and Injuries”, Amsterdam - The Netherlands
